BARRACOON by Zora Neal Hurston

This amazing recount of the last living slave told by Zora Neal Hurston is a must read. Telling accounts from his life prior to captivity to his life during slavery to his moments of life afterwards fills me with awe, sadness and such respect for a man who has endured much.

21 Books to Read in 2021

There’s some oldies, new releases and great books in between. Looking forward to reading a mixture of memoirs, non-fiction and fiction stories a like. It’s always a good time to pick up a good book. No excuses…just the opportunity to get lost in a great story or grow from someone else’s experiences.

Top 5 Books of 2020

Here are the top 5 books that I enjoyed reading last year. If you haven’t read this, be sure to add them to your reading list. And in no particular order:

  1. Verity - Colleen Hoover - Want to read a book where you end up ignoring your family, job and plants? I can’t say enough about what a mindfuck this book was to read.

  2. How To Love - Thich Nhat Hanh - I love, love this author. Everything he writes is with simplicity and grace. How To Love is just a wonderful, short read that nudges you to love yourself and others in just the right way.

  3. Call Me By Your Name - Andre Acimann - I listened to this as an audiobook and let me tell you it had me enchanted. The reader does an amazing job and I just couldn’t stop listening to this book. They made a movie out of it, but I have yet to see it.

  4. Practicing Peace - Pema Chodron - This was by far the best book I read in 2020. It came at a time when I was looking for a short, impactful read without all the fluff. She writes about spirituality in laymen terms and gives you a gently nudged to not only do better, but with practice…you can do better. If I could gift this book to everyone in this country…this would be it. Read it and pass it on.

  5. Book Yourself Solid - Michael Port - If you’re starting a business or thinking about starting a business, this book has some amazing, actionable gems. I still talk about the velvet rope.
