Hello Everyone! I always find the New Year an exciting time. For me, it stands for opportunities, reflection and a chance to wipe the metaphorical slate clean. A lot of good things came out of 2020, but we often spend more energy reflecting on the negative. I don’t want to do a year in review as more of a commitment to what my expectations are for this upcoming year. I’m constantly fine tuning my messaging, what I do and what I offer. I can honestly say one thing I know for sure is that I love curating books for people and putting meaningful event boxes together with intention. It’s an interconnectedness of curiosities, anticipation and engagement that I strive for in what I do every day. I want to continue to share, expand and be a part of a community that matches those internal curiosities with the outward acceptance of differences and commonalities. As above. So below.
The Awesome Word ‘Pivot’
The over-used buzz word of the year…pivot. Yup, I pivoted my business. If you didn’t than you were just treading water. March hit and events were dead. People did all kinds of things to stay relevant in the event space. Many took to yard signs and balloon garlands to celebrate milestones. I took to event in a box and finally using my etsy shop I had one since 2014. I loved the concept of intimate events and still sharing special events in a unique way. My event in the box concept was something I’ve been wanting to do for years, but never seemed like the right time. Now, the opportunity to create Unicorn Boxes, Book Boxes and Virtual Worker Box makes so much more sense. I’m looking forward to providing even more boxes, collaborating with awesome vendors and creating more unique experiences for people.
Books Anyone?
I’ve been a book-lover all of my life. Opening up an online bookstore made perfect sense to me at a time when I needed to do something different. I love curating books as much as I love planning events. I don’t want to be just a place to buy books. There’s so many bookstores out there that do just that. I include a unique experience…the element of surprise and the limit of unlimited scrolling. My bookstore is focused and curated to bring books that I believe you will find interesting – whether it’s about Black history, feminism or a good romance. Look to an expansion towards non-fiction, positivity and spiritual books in my offerings. Learning how to be better and do better.
Life’s an Event
Yes, it is! It’s a culmination of daily activities with hits of milestones. Life is truly what we make of it and I’ve gone through some growing pains, adjustments and transformations through it all. I’m grateful for everyone that has supported my business, even with one “like” button. We are our own CEO of our lives. We dictate the how, who and when. We just need constant reminders of this within our lives. Gratitudes. Celebrating the small victories and being our authentic selves. It’s surprising to find when we open up to others, there’s some commonalities. We are not alone in some of our pain and sufferings. I am not alone in my pains and successes. The experiences we share can and do help others. I hope to bring more of this in 2021 in a podcast with an awesome co-host. We’ll be opening up about ourselves, sharing our thoughts and experiences in hopes you’ll do the same.
What’s Event in a Box
Well, life continues and so does The Event Flipper. I’m growing my business and tweaking what I offer and what I can bring to the table in 2021. My list of goals is hefty, but ambition is always good. It will look and feel different, but it will always be simple, pretty and functional. Follow me in my journey as I bring products, stories and events that adds value to the space in which we live.
Event in a box is the way that I want to engage in the senses and bring elements of life together in a fun way. I will introduce more boxes that focuses on the self. The permission to be a little selfish. Indulge in a moment within ourselves. I will also introduce boxes that celebrate events – onboarding at companies, milestones and just to say hello. We’re living in time where togetherness is tricky at best, but that doesn’t mean we have to stay outside the peripheral of those we love and care about. We can still send an extension of our love.
So what about real face to face events?
I’m selective and will continue to be selective in the face-to-face events that I plan. I do believe as the current status of this pandemic changes, so shall how I interact and engage with people. I do miss a good trade show and a good networking event. This moment is a way to challenge ourselves and see if we can adapt and do things differently. Milestones don’t have to be these huge cumbersome events with 100’s of people. They can be intimate, fabulous and purposeful. Paradise
Always something to say
They (whoever they are) says content is king. I have a lot to share based on my experiences and how I navigate running a small business, loving the ins and outs of being in the kitchen and good old motherhood. There’s plenty to share and sometimes being authentic about life with others is the best storytelling you can do. Stay tuned for more.
